On Saturday 1st December The Shop Revolution (a SEE3 Portas’ Pilot project) launches three Pop Up shops in Forest Hill, Kirkdale and Sydenham, SEE3 Markets begins the first of three pilot markets and the community hub, Jill, opens up to the public for the first time.

The South London Portas’ Pilot scheme, SEE3, announces that The Butchery Ltd, Pen & Gravy with Modernish and Conquer Gear, have each won the opportunity to open and run a pop up shop from 1 to 24 December 2012. The address details are: The Butchery Ltd (49 London Road, Forest Hill), Pen & Gravy/Modernish collaboration (161 Kirkdale) and Conquer Gear (Unit 4 Station Approach, Sydenham) running throughout December until Christmas Eve.

Nathan Mills and Ruth Siwinski, local residents and The Butchery Ltd business owners say: “It’s been our dream for years to have a neighbourhood butcher shop. Traditionally, most high streets had them – and we’re so excited to have this opportunity from SEE3 to bring one back to Forest Hill. We can’t wait to talk to locals about good meat, and hope this pop-up might help bring independent retailers – especially butcher’s like us– back to UK high streets.”

Jamie Palmer, local artist behind Pen & Gravy says: “We’re massively excited to have this opportunity to run a pop-up in Kirkdale and can’t wait to create a unique and colourful shopping and exhibition space.  We’re hoping that having the platform to show our products and ideas to a wider audience will increase our chances of being able to run a longer-term project.”

Sebastian Stobbs says: “Conquer are very excited to be part of the SEE3 Community Project. There is a real buzz around Forest Hill, Sydenham and Kirkdale with all the regeneration that is happening.”  Conquer hopes to engage local residents with art, ethics and humour and encourage people to stop by the Pop Up and find out more about ethical clothing production.

In addition to the pop up shops, the first market from SEE3: Kirkdale Vintage and Retro Market starts at Kelvin Grove Primary School, with two more planned for December; arts, crafts and gifts at Forest Hill Festive Fair on Saturday 15th December and seasonal gastronomic goodies at Sydenham Festive Food and Gift Market on Sunday 16th December.

I know where I’ll be doing my Christmas shopping this year!
